The emissions test has been integrated into the main inspection since January 1st, 2010. Legislators require regular vehicle checks to ensure safety on Germany's roads. Every vehicle owner must therefore present their car for the general inspection (HU) at regular, legally stipulated intervals. Depending on the type of vehicle, it is due every 12 to 24 months and is usually carried out together with the emissions test.
